Nostalgic PC Games you need play in 2020!

I have compiled a list of nostalgia inducing PC games which are still relevant for 2019! Read on to know more…

Keeping aside the nostalgic PC games for 2019 for a moment, let’s acknowledge the fact that gamers world-wide are a class apart. They view life differently and they weave through life’s challenges differently as well. Even more, it is now an established fact that gamers have contributed in solving some of science’s biggest problems.

I myself have been an avid gamer for years and I am talking everything from old school to new school. So, as a tribute to the gaming world and all that it taught me, I have listed some of my all time favorite video games!

[FAIR WARNING]: You probably won’t find some of the obvious PC games out there but what can I say? I am a sucker for the classics. Happy reading!

GENRE: STEALTH; Third person-shooter

You play Agent 47, a mercenary with a license to kill. Agent 47 is a clone who was created specifically to execute high profile assassinations discreetly. You can either make the assassination look like an accident or go ballistic, your choice will affect your ratings.

God, the irony of this scene! The papers would say the victim leaned too far and lost balance thereby falling to his death. That’s Agent 47 for you.

There are 7 games in the main series:

i. Hitman: Codename 47 (2000)

ii. Hitman: Silent Assassin (2002) (I still play this one!)

iii. Hitman: Contracts (2004)

iv. Hitman: Blood Money (2006)

v. Hitman: Absolution (2012)

vi. Hitman (2016)

vii. Hitman 2 (2018)

The game requires strategy, patience and improvisation on the spot. As the game progresses in the series, the graphics get highly-detailed. On the other hand, the game becomes more and more of an open-world concept too.

2. MAX  PAYNE 1 & 2

Genre: Neo-Noir, Action-Thriller; Third Person Shooter

Nostalgic PC games for 2019 will be incomplete without including this video game. Released in 2001 and 2003 respectively, Max Payne is an addictive game to say the least. The story-line delves into survivor’s guilt, paranoia, schizophrenia, hallucinations, murder and mind-puzzling mysteries.

The plot of MP 1 revolves around Max Payne, a New York City Police Detective turned vigilante out for revenge when his family is murdered by drug dealers.

Max Payne 2 sees our vigilante back in action as a NYPD detective and is soon embroiled in an another murder mystery. The graphics get better in this game and you can freely interact with objects around the room. The game gets crazier as the plot progresses.

Do check out the prologue parts in this series. It’s just too good to miss!

Prologue part of the game is visually terrifying to say the least.

Genre: Open-world; Action-adventure

I learnt how to drive from GTA. That’s how much I played it. The whole world in the gameplay is accessible can be interacted with. From hiring hookers to  hitting old ladies in the park, this game provides an outlet to channel your dark side 😉 it’s true.

A gameplay excerpt from GTA: San Andreas. You can enter premises, purchase food items and pretty much do anything.

Although there 7 games in this series, you are advised to start from GTA: Vice City (2002) and then progress through each game chronologically. Earlier versions probably would no longer work on modern windows version.

Genre: Multiplayer First-Person Shooter

This game has one of the largest community of online gamers. You can either play online or play it on ‘campaign’ mode and advance through the levels. Each level comes with its own set of rules and choice of weapons which you have to use in order to complete the level.

Gameplay on Counter Strike: Global Offence.

There are three instalments in the Counter Strike series:

i. Counter Strike (2000)

ii. CS: Condition Zero (2004)

iii. CS: Global Offensive (2012)

You can either be with the counter-terrorism force or the terrorists. Gameplay will require you the arm/diffuse a bomb or kill/rescue hostages, depending on which side you are on. For each enemy you kill, you earn a cash bonus and winning a level also rewards you; it is for you to purchase more weapons and equipments for upcoming rounds.

Gameplay of CS: Condition Zero.

Genre: First-person shooter; War video game

As of now, I have played MoH: Allied Assault, MoH: Pacific Assault and MoH: Warfighter (little bit!). They were a delight to play. The graphics are not be upto today’s standard but the gameplay is engaging enough to keep you hooked for hours.

FUN FACT: The story of the first three games was created by film director and producer Steven Spielberg. (src: wikipedia)

The MoH: Allied Assault game starts with you entering the Battle of Normandy. You infiltrate German territory to win the World War II.
MoH: Pacific Assault opens with the Battle of Pearl Harbour and you go to war against Japan in this instalment.

During gameplay, you WILL feel the gravity of the situation. Since the game plots are based on true events, you will want to WIN at every level. Don’t let the simple graphics fool you – the gameplay is difficult. That coupled with music score composed by the likes of  Michael GiacchinoChristopher Lennertz and Ramin Djawadi, this game is legit.

Genre: Racing

There are 24 video games under this series starting all the way from 1994. The gameplay is fairly simple as you race to win. Period. As the game progresses in its series, the more open-world it becomes. The cars get faster, edgier and louder!

A still from NFS; Most Wanted (2005)

I remember playing this game from when I was a kid. My brother had gotten Need For Speed II and then I proceeded to play Underground 2, Most Wanted and Carbon (little bit). Even my mother played Underground 2 for months! It engages users of all age and the graphics coupled with the sound effects make it a delightful gaming experience.

Genre: FPS (First-person shooter),

These games are not for the faint-hearted. There is gore, violence and high-speed action. You are put in an arena with several other players ranging from aliens to cyborgs to battle hardened humans – it’s a hunger-game styled plot. You enter, equip yourself with weapons and ammo before you come across any enemy. The objective of the game is to win. At all costs.

One of the best levels I ever played. There is no gravity and the opponents are ruthless. Still from UT: 1999
UT:2004 enabled you to access armored vehicles, air-fighters and tanks. Best gaming ever!
The latest instalment on Unreal Tournament released on 2017 has increased graphic effects and more destructive weapons! What else you need, bro?

Genre: Historical Real-Time Strategy

 Age-of-empires-2013-definitive edition
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition released in 2013.
Age of Mythology is a spin-off of Age of Empires but with twist of fantasy. It takes its plots and characters from Greek, Norse and Egyptian mythologies.

This is a strategy gameplay. You have to choose from various civilizations, build up your kingdom then your armies and then wage war against your enemy(ies).

Once you get a hang of the game, you will learn battle-techniques, kingdom-ruling techniques and basically learn how to build our own world from scratch.

9. FIFA 2003/CRICKET 2002/NBA 2003

Genre: Sports

Another series of games which crowns our nostalgic PC games for 2019 list; don’t judge the game by its graphics. These games may be old but by no means are they any less competent. Sports games offer you a chance to relax. There are no bad guys to kill, there are no death matches in kill arenas; it’s just pure sport which decompresses you.

I played these games for a long time and have very fond memories of those times. Check them out:

FIFA 2003 gameplay.
Goofy graphics, I know but the game was awesome. You could even create your own players and roster them into the national teams.
NBA 2003

SO, THERE YOU GO. tHIS WAS THE LIST OF ALL THE NOSTALGIC PC GAMES FOR 2019. All these games helped me to be the person  i am today. games are more than just entertainment; if you’re observant & aware, you might just learn something truly incredible about life and how it works.
